In this workshop, we will discuss how one can incorporate asynchronous online learning materials effectively in courses in higher education with a particular focus on subject areas in humanities, social sciences and education. In ensuring high levels of students engagement and successful learning, it is crucial to design online modules that have clearly stated learning goals, are carefully structured and offer various options for learning. Learning tasks should also be set up to encourage reflection and interaction among learners. The different role of educators in these modules from the ones taken in face to face courses also needs to be considered. In this interactive session we will focus on these essential aspects of higher teaching and I will showcase examples from a variety of online learning contexts including postgraduate modules in education and assessment as well as massive open online learning courses.

Target group: all higher education teachers and colleagues, but mostly targeted for lecturers in humanities, social sciences and education. No prior knowledge required.
